The boy who didn’t know he had supernatural powers.

Children short story.

In a far away village, lived a boy with his family. The boy’s name was Sizwe. Sizwe was a very shy boy. He loved playing with his dog by the river. Everyday when Sizwe was finish with his chores, he will take his dog for a walk by the river. There they would play. Running around, climbing trees, picking up sticks and having the best time with his dog. Sometimes they would hunt small animals. Sizwe enjoyed his days by the river. One day Sizwe was playing with his dog by the river as usual. They heard a sound “ help! Help”. Somebody was in the river shouting for help. The old man must have fallen from the cliff while mending to sheep’s. He is a shepherd. The shepherd called again, “Heeelp I can’t swim”. Sizwe was scared and did not know what to do and, the dog was also frantic barking all around him. Sizwe keep on breathing calming and in his mind he imagined a big tree bending and, the shepherd holding on to it to safer ground. He kept on breathing slowing and focusing on his imagination. A slow breeze brushed of his face, as he open his as to see what he can to help the drowning shepherd. He was surprise to see his imagination in reality, the trees were bent and, the shepherd was being carried to safety the trees, just like in his mind. He was shock and couldn’t believe his eyes. The trees dropped the shepherd next to him. He thanked the trees and gave them gentle strokes as the trees grew back to normal. The shepherd was as just as surprised as him. The shepherd was wet and shaking from the water. He was shivering from cold, as he was struggling to ask the little boy, how did he do that? He also didn’t know. The shepherd couldn’t wait to get back home to the village for him to change the wet clothes, thank Sizwe properly with a lamb for his heroic deed and, inform Sizwe’s parents about Sizwe’s supernatural powers. Sizwe, his dog and the shepherd hurried back home.
